Chatterbox Winter 2024-2025

Satsumas. I haven’t thought about them in years!

Good luck with your trees. As long as you don’t have some frozen pipes or roof damage, you’re doing OK.

We had more snow overnight. I’m not a fan, but Cookie the dog really didn’t like it when we walked this morning.

Just another winter day here.

Getting packed up and organized for the big train show in Springfield (actually West Springfield). Looks like weather will be OK for the trip.

It’s a bit breezy here, but outside temperature is in the mid-70’s. Biggest fire is S.D. county so far was a mile west from where I used to live - Santa Ana’s blow from the east so my former house was not in danger.

Snow - Cate says no problem as she helped a friend get his car out of a snow covered ditch during her Colorado visit 22 January 2025. Along UP’s Moffat Tunnel Subdivision.

Amtrak 146 led the slightly late California Zephyr, train 5, past Eisle Siding west of Arvada, Colorado, Wednesday, 22 January 2025. UP’s Moffat Tunnel Subdivision.

Just noticed that VRF has a new camera location at Mookie’s hangout in Lincoln, NE. Very cool.

Love that photo!

afternoon
Went and tried the family pancake house near Fc. Boss approved. Amtrak trains through our area have been late. Had to deal with extra ice due to a water main break in our neighborhood. Going to check out the Mookie cam.

The Amherst show is in the books for 2025. Attendance for the two days was somewhere north of 24,000, from what I hear. We saw lots of people and gave out a lot of information. A good time was had by all.

No prizes, but guess the name of the bridge?
One clue. The station is Dalmeny Station.

The Forth Bridge?

I hope you didn’t have to Google it?

I was guessing Forth Bridge as well due to hints of cantilever design evident in the photo.

Not at first, but I must confess that I did resort to Google to confirm my guess. That caused me to edit my original post because I initially posted The Fourth Bridges, then changed it to Forth Bridges, then to Forth Bridge. Shame on me. LOL.

For some reason, I always have the term Fourth of Fifth in mind. And, I confuse Firth of Forth with Firth of Fifth, the Genesis song. Arggghh!

I think that Erik should be declared the winner since he did not have to resort to Google.

Nice to know that I’m not the only one familiar with early Genesis - Firth of Fifth IIRC was from, Selling England by the Pound.

The process of repainting the Forth bridge is often used as an example of a never ending task.

Yeah, as popular as they were, I don’t think that Genesis ever got the recognition that they deserved as a founder of progressive rock. Some pretty famous names in that group, especially Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. I recall watching an episode of Miami Vice when the intro turned out to be In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins. Haunting!

Snowmelt day here in Nw Ohio. Oldest nephew is the big 50 today. Groundhog day is coming this Sunday. Don’t think we will see autoracks on the shortline(ndw) like we did in 2008. We can always hope.
