Quiet day - pretty much recovered from Springfield. Working on a little red schoolhouse kit I got there.
Pretty quiet day for me as well. Weather was sunny but cool (by SoCal standards) yesterday, a bit cooler today with a fair amount of overcast.
Looks like the transition to the new forum is complete with the old forum shut down and no banner on the Trains webpage with a link to the forums. I do like the responsiveness of the new forum and the ability to place pictures directly into a post. I do miss the look of the old forum, but definitely do not miss the 504ās from last year.
Calling for a high of 80 in NE Florida today
-12.5F at the house this morningā¦
YIKES! Weāve got a balmy 24F here in the Hudson Valley!
Say what? Minus 12.5 degrees in your home. What happened?
Rich
Thatās altogether too cold!
At the house, not in the houseā¦
Ahh, thatās better. We were getting ready to offer to take you in. LOL.
Rich
-12.5ĀŗF is still pretty darn cold - coldest Iāve ever experienced was -15ĀŗF. Outside air temp at work is in the mid-60ās, weāre supposed to have a possibility of rain from tonight to Friday, which should help east county.
Weāve had a fairly mild winter so far, with only a few days below zero F.
Several years ago we had a string of three or four days of 30Ā° F below zero during the nights. Weād let the dog outside, and sheād be back in the door within 30 seconds.
The strangest thing here on the plains is that New Orleans has had twice as much snow as weāve had. Theyāre about 800 miles south of our latitude.
A reason I escape to Florida after Christmas.
Remember days at various location where leaving the house when outside it is well below ZERO Fahrenheit and you inhale that first breath and it seems to FREEZE the airway to the lungs. Didnāt enjoy the experience then, donāt want to replicate it now.
I canāt speak to that but i never did like the below freezing weather with enough wind to make your eyes water, only for the tears to freeze on your face
-40F used to be a common occurrence hereabouts. In fact, I remember one bitter night when it was said temps approached -50F. - while we were out fighting a fire (couldnāt even save the basement - it was wooden, a rarity in this area). The location was thought to be in two different fire districts before it was determined it was in our district.
There were a few mornings when I was delivering the Detroit Free Press, ca 1960, when I woke my father to drive me around my route due to very sub-zero temperatures.
That is toooo cold.
Last night was cold enough at minus 2c and to see Jack Frost had been busy.

Amtrakās Floridian has been late and late again coming through Nw Ohio. North Baltimore(Bottleneck) has been keeping up itās reputation on Csx. Extra power from various railroads have been coming by as well. Have been working and working some more. Many rounds of stuff from Mother Nature coming this week. Need to get ready for work.

Weāre getting some much needed rain, first major rainfall since last spring. There were no major fires along the LOSSAN corridor, so landslides south of LAUPT shouldnāt be an issue.
For those of you short of rain, just letting you know there is much more than we need here. Anyone know how to ask the Rain Gods to rain elsewhere?
David
Sorry David, we are taking yesterdays snow and adding rain to it here, so weāre soggy enough as is.
