Threatening us here in northern NY with several inches of snow, plus maybe a trace of freezing rain. I’m set here at the house, so no problem. Plenty of fuel for the snowblower. Need decent travel weather on Saturday, though, as I’ve got to travel to Utica to run the Valentine’s/Date Night train.
Sorry, can’t help you here either, David.
I wouldn’t mind working out some sort of sharing deal with Larry and some of our other northerners, though. Highs have been around 83 degrees the last few days.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some more rain on the mountains to the east of us to help keep the trees properly watered and help fill the various reservoirs. The rain would be best if spread over a few weeks.
Woke up this morning and thought ‘Hurrah the Rain Gods have moved on.’
The happiness was short lived as the ‘Heavenly watering can’ began again.
Other than going to the Hospice for treatment, not a lot going on.
David
No rain on the plains, but lots of snow. Thirteen below zero F outside right now.
It’s a good day to stay inside and look at train videos.
Woke up this morning to sub-freezing temps. As I was getting the inch or so of very heavy snow out of the driveway I felt it start to rain. Pulled the truck out of the still sub-freezing garage and the rain started to freeze on the windshield. After driving a little while (headed to a lunch group) it warmed up considerably - I think we got close toi +40F. Then it started to drop again.
Not looking forward to the foot of snow they’re suggesting for the weekend, especially since I volunteered to work a train on Saturday. I’ll stay over and drive home in daylight, hopefully with waning snow.
morning
Happy Valentines day. Mother Nature sending 2 rounds of stuff for the weekend. Going to try to check on my brother as well. Here is a memory from 9 years ago when the Salad trains were running through Deshler.
stay safe

Cold front went through NE Florida overnight - rain and falling temps.
High yesterday was 82 - today 65.
That’s a cold front? We’re looking forward to a week of sub zero temps here in the Chicago area starting Monday.
Rich
That is why I do January and February in Florida and not Maryland.
LOL. I spent my first retirement year in a rented condo in Fort Myers. If the temp dropped below 60 degrees, the golf course was deserted.
Rich
CSX brought me to Florida in 1990 and then back to Maryland in 2008. While in Jacksonville I bought a condo, I still have it.
Just shared out a nine year old FB post from the morning we launched a balloon from a local park. It was -14F that morning. The balloon went to 85,000 feet and landed just west of Albany, NY.
Finally got around to getting back on here, busy with work battling cold and snow/ice…
Welcome back on board, rvos1979
David
Good to see you back on board.
Amtrak’s Winter Park Express train 1105 emerged from fog at Crescent, Colorado, Saturday, 15 February 2025. Fresh snow has fallen in the Colorado Rockies. Union Pacific RR had no trains running to interfere with the Winter Park Express that morning. Temperatures were in the mid-20’s with partly cloudy sky. Down at Rocky and Bolulder, CO, it was heavy fog.
Amtrak 75, P42DC Phase VII, with 7-car Winter Park Express, train 1105, at Crescent, Colorado, Saturday, 15 February 2025. UP’s Moffat Tunnel Subdivision. Fog obscured the Colorado Rockies that are usually visible from this location.vv
Fresh snow falling in northern New York - on the way to around a foot, so they say.
Just finished using my Toro snowblower to clean off 4 inches of new snowfall on my driveway. Another snowstorm is headed our way here in the Chicago area tonight. Then a week of zero and sub zero temperatures await us.
While I was cleaning off my driveway, the vibration of the snowblower snapped the pull cord right off the snowblower. Thank goodness it is an electric start blower, so I am good to tomorrow. When I bought the snowblower some years back, I paid extra for the electric start feature although I never use it. The wife promised to do the task if it had an electric start, but she has yet to carry through on that promise.
