I just picked up a pair of flickering LED tea lights at the local Dollar Tree for you guessed it, $1.00. I saw them in the store and though I might find an application for them on my HO layout. I tried one inside a recentlly finished model of a marine supply building for my waterfront scene. It looks great for an old bulding that could have some kind of flickering light. These are not very bright which makes them perfect for the effect I wanted. Just thought I would pass this on to anyone that might need something like this, and at only $.50 each you can’t go wrong. They come with a 3 volt button cell and an on/off switch, so they could be wired to a small 3 volt power supply and get rid of the batteries.
The wife brought home a bunch of them about 2 years ago. After the batteries were dead I pulled one apart and found a very nice sunny white 3mm LED soldered to the flicker board. I un-soldered a few for loco headlights. I think they are 10 for a buck. A great resource for us model railroaders. I planned the same use but without the battery and using a power supply for my house lights when my layout gets together. A little orange paint or a yellow sharpy and instant fire place.
She keeps bringing them home and I keep taking them.
