This was the best lash-up of my life! It consisted of 4 BN SD40-2’s and a BNSF SD40-2 all on a westbound manifest doing track speed 70 MPH! [:)] Thanks for looking!
I never thought a consist full of green BN SD40-2s would constitute a best lashup. My how the times have changed. It wasn’t too long ago that BN SD40-2s were all you might see on a days worth of trains.
Anyway I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them.
The mind boggles as to the length of this train or was it just normal?
Perhaps not the best lashup I have ever personally seen, but I can surely understnad how you feel. This SD40-2 lashup would be to you the same thing as my generation seeing a solid lashup of GP9, SD9, F7 or similar types. Yes, how times have changed. Just imagine that some day we may (will?) say the same thing when we see solid lashups of Dash9’s (if we live that long).
Yes, it’s funny how the mundane eventually becomes a rarity. I probably watched 300 trains through Eola with that kind of power. Frankly it got boring back then. But I have to admit, it would have been fun to see it again now. Somehow I doubt I’ll ever feel that way about -9’s.

Chad, I wish it were the old days, where all we would see were BN SD40-2’s. In Joliet, where I live, we get quite a few of them, especially on Stackers and Manifests. We also get the beautiful Yellow and Blue Bluebonnet Santa Fe’s, which are always great to see. [:)]
Old Limey, I’d say the train had about 70 cars. It was pretty long, considering how fast he was going. [:)]
eolafan, I’m going to miss the Dash 9’s when they’re gone someday, but that wont be for a while. I love seeing a solid set of 3 or 4 Dash 9’s going by 70 MPH.[:)]

Dave, I’ve been to Eola about 3 times. I’ve seen some rare stuff there. [:)] The train M-BRCGAL always has great lash-ups! I’ve seen that train stop there a long time, moving out of the yard and back into the yard. I’ve seen some BN SD40-2’s on it, and the Santa Fe Yellow and Blue Bluebonnets. [:D]
[:0] Yep, BRCGAL and GALBRC normally have rather unusual (for today) lashups but they sometimes can not be distinguised from any other mainline general merchandise freight with a couple of Dash9 units. They sometimes stay for hours and hours in Eola switching and at other times are in and out in about an hour. Depends on how many set outs and pick ups they have and interference from other traffic in the area, you just can never tell one day to the next.
May not be that long. I saw a Wisc&Sou with 7 SD40’s just last weekend in Janesville, Wi. It was pulling only about 30 cars!
Longest trains I ever saw, were coal drags in Canada in the late 70’s. One particular one in Winnipeg I believe had 10 units on the front end and 4 in the middle.

i saw 1 GE AC4400CW pulling about 80 empty trilevel auto loaders, it was going about 20 mph, it lasted FOREVER as it ws going past, it took like 15 minutes for it to pass me. and i was stading still.

100 car trains are fairly common, at least out here.
