18,000 ouch, no wonder there is 0 bidders
I gotta be honest, when I read the thread before clicking the link, I was expecting a WHOLE lot more to it - even with the observations about the price being high. When I did click the link, I was shocked. It’s a very nice little layout, but I gotta agree - $18K is WWWWAAAAAY over the top.
I did a couple of quick checks on internet sites and it would appear that $2,500 - $3,000 MIGHT be a more appropriate price w/o shipping.
But hey, if he does get 18 K, I might retire and go into new line of business. [:D]

When I found this, I didn’t give much thought to the price other than to think to myself, “Too much for me.” It is way over the top, though. If some of you are right, and you can build something like that for $5K or less, it makes me think he didn’t make it himself, and paid a pretty hefty price for it in the first place. Heck, if it only costs a few thousand, I just might make one myself someday! [:)]
I wonder how much of the $18K is wrapped up in the seller personally flying to the buyer’s house and staying a few days? I guess he wants to fly first class and stay at the Hilton or something? Maybe he’s also including a hourly labor fee, too?
Looks really cool. But 18,000 is a little outta my price range. But it is not a bad price like ereimer said.
I think ereimer is right. For that kind of $$ I would rather put a layout in throughout the entire basement.
Note the downtown buildings. Looks like they are right “out of the box”. I don’t think a mega-bucks person would pay more than $8,000.
!!! that guy is smoking!!! he will never get 18,000 for it… maybe 5,000 but thats it. Tim
in the sixth picture down, there appear to be two disembodied human feet leaning against the table. Also, if the seller is going to be staying 2-3 days, I hope he plans on a hotel room instead of shacking up with the customer. [:D]
At $18,000 he could at least include shipping[:0][xx(].For that kind of money, I could buy a car,and then build a killer HO layout besides.
Buildings didnt appear to me to be very detailed/weathered. Heck, I have only built one layout so far, and I think my buildings are just as good. Havent even tried weathering them yet. But, if he can get 18k, more power to him
lets just pretend you have won the lottery for twenty million bucks, or bill gates is your dad, and you are in the process of furnishing your new “cottage” at the beach…
how does it look now?
being train people, we should already know; perspective can be important.
He was being sarcastic.[:D]

There’s a company in MR that custom builds these. I bet you could get one to your own spec a heck of a lot cheaper.
It didn’t move…
$18,000 was over the top.
Wow thats a layout you don’t see every day! Looks good to me and thanks for sharing!
You could build the layout - get a round trip ticket on any train trip(US or CN) - and put a good down payment on a new pickup for less - anyone willing to pay that isn’t smat enough to have the money to buy it!
This is what happens when you leave the cap off the Super Glue too long!
I wouldn’t give him $800 bucks for this piece of crap!!!
I just finished laying track and switches (22) on my new layout and didn’t spend half that much and I got exactly what I wanted.
This is for someone with more money than BRAINS!!!
still looks expensive
I just had another look at this closed unsold item … and ACCORDING TO EBAY, SIMILAR ITEMS (whatever that means ?) were listed in a range of prices of $7.99 - $95.00 USD. [(-D][(-D][(-D]
this post can now be closed, until the seller re-lists the item…
There was a local GXT show this weekend in Puyallup, Wa and one of the vendors had a coffee table “Z” layout about 1/5th the size of this and he was asking only $750.00. It had only one elongated circle of track but did have much better scenery ( mountainous timber with raging river and two lane state road). It looked pretty sharp for a “regular” sized coffee table…Still too much for me, tho…
