Check this out! Severe wreck damage on this one. OUCH! What do you all think?

This Amtrak has had a pretty hard time. Check out the severe wreck damage on the nose! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=113219

What do you all think?
Thanks for looking. [:)] Nick

Severe? Was it travelling at 70 mph?

When this photo was taken, yes. He was moving pretty good. This is actually the most damage I have ever seen on an Amtrak engine. I’m postive that there’s been worse.

Something in a yard cornered it…looks about the right height for a mill gondola…

Ouch! whose got the big band-aids?
stay safe

Amazingly the ditch light still works. Or maybe they just replaced the light.

Take care,

Russell

Looks like someone failed parallel parking…

…Looks like Amtrak simply repaired the essentials…ligh, power receptables, etc…and put the engine back in service…No money to really get into the body work and repair it totally. Furthermore, perhaps they didn’t have any thing to replace it while it would have been out of service to have it repaired totally. I sure hope Gunn gets the budget I’ve seen mentioned on another post on here and perhaps he can take care of some things that have been delayed or put off due to lack of money…

Shoot, that’s just a little ding!! What’s all the fuss about?!?!?! Have seen locos
with a heck of a lot worse damage STILL running the tracks.

This line through the SW suburbs of Chicago metro sure are different than they look at first glance. When one visits the Lockport area and station the first time you see what seems like a sleepy secondary line and kind of expect to see a few trains a day come through at moderate speeds at best…AND THEN you see Amtrak come through at 70 per or more and WOW, you realize that this line handles some really fast passenger trains (for such a populated area as this) and a respecable number of freights at quite a pace. Then you go a few blocks to the west down near the I&M canal and see the BNSF transcontinental main and really see some fast freight action and lots of it. This is a really nice railfanning spot for those of us in the Chicago metro area that has nice vantage points and lots of traffic typically and even a Mickey D and a Burger King for some food and refreshments. Too bad it is about forty minutes from my home, so I normally choose the BNSF triple track main from Aurora where I live to Chicago.

And just HOW was this picture taken? And by WHOM? Seems like a call to the authorities is on order…

Dont even go there.

That is not severe damage. I had a ding about that big on my cabover once.

it does not look that bad, there have been plenty of amtrak locos with that kind of damage, some even worse, and they are still roaming the rails

I’d like to see that engine on an amtrak poster[:p]

I’ve seen quite a few locos with damage. Lets hope they repair them. [:)]

Its not that bad. Its still in service.

I understand that it’s not real bad damage. What could have happened to it? If it hit a car or truck, wouldn’t the damage be worse? What’s your opinion? [:)]

I don’t feel it is all that bad either. Amtrak will probably get it in as soon as they can. Need to maintain an image here.

I’ve seen 179 before, and it never had that dent. It must have happened recently. Nick

Geez, most damage I’ve ever seen on an Amtrak engine!
