Cheyenne depot

My major project for 2007 is to build an N-scale model of Union Pacific’s Cheyenne Depot.

I did quite a lot of research on the internet and found some nice pictures but no outline drawing with the overall dimensions of the depot. So I worked on a good guess basis, so to say…

There’s especially one detail I couldn’t find out on any pic: what is there behind that kinda wall between the clock tower and the building next to it?

Can anyone help ?

Have you checked this web site? The depot is now a museum with an extensive collection of photographs on their web site.

As a last resort, you may be able to send an e-mail to the museum staff and ask them.

Thanks cacole! I have already sent them an email. I also tried UP historical society. Perhaps I could send an email to the Model Railroader staff… (they don’t seem to read the forums… lol…)

Not sure, here’s a link to the Denver Public Library photos. Just put in Cheyenne Depot and you’ll get a few pics.

If you can lay your hands on a copy of Robert Darwin’s expensive and wonderful “History of the Union Pacific in Cheyenne” you will find many revealing pictures of that glorious station. Most on point on page 19 Darwin has reproduced a portions of the architects original elevations, notably the north and east faces. These will confirm your educated guesses on dimensions, and I think they’ll answer questions about the tower. Keep in mind that the lunch room on the east side came much, much later.

Chattanooga54, I forgot to mention that I’ll be greatly interested in the success of the project. Sooner or later, I’m going to be looking for help in putting together an HO model of the same building, probably without the lunchroom, but with the freight extension on the west.

Hi !

Still interested in Cheyenne’s Union Depot ? I can send you the drawing I made with Illustrator (or a pdf) ?
