I’m looking for some advice. As some of you know, I’m modeling the Cheyenne UP Steam facilities. Right now I’m building the Rail Shop. I have some pieces left over because Walthers gives you extra parts for options on the building.
So I have this extra wall piece that I can use as a backdrop building.
Should I use this backdrop building on my scene? Will it look OK, or does it look out of place?
From the Rail Shop, I will extend one track to go through the Rail Shop. Into either the Roundhouse or another building.
It’s hard to see if there’s enough room between the backdrop and the TT, but if there is, here’s what I’d do. The left side of the leftover piece can snuggle against the backdrop, but on the right side, pull it away from the backdrop and add a short section of wall to fill the resulting gap. That gives the building a little more 3-D heft. This will work even better if this puts the front of the leftover piece parallel to the shop’s back wall.
The only sticking point is that the backdrop is an open field. If you can add some trees or other items to hide where the 3-D flat intersects the 2-D backdrop that will help blend it in.
Have you had a look at Bob Darwins’s great book “The Union Pacific in Cheyenee”? He has photos of about all the major rail buildins and enough shots of the railyard to see if your building might fit in somewhere.
I would raise the area to match the height of the mainline style cork you have leading to it. Sure you were planning on that though. I think you can pull that building off…turntable looks good.
Mike, that is a great idea. I have already suggested to Michael that he pick up three junk tenders and cut them up so the rear ends sit in the three stalls.
It would be a even less painful to take the smokebox and tender end from one loco, plus whatever could be scrounged up for the third “puppet” loco.[oops]
You make it look so good, you are a seasoned Pro!!!
Really, I see the calculation, positive approch, & execution, of a well established modeller.
We are all awaiting the next set of pix, as you are insiring all of us.
That is real nice work, I really like & enjoy it!!! (with you!!!)!
