Impressive accomplishment.
As always, I’m glad to see another F unit saved and restored. I will always think they were the best looking diesels to come out of LaGrange. They have a styling that is timeless. This one is 65 years old, but it still looks modern. Thanks to all at the Hub City Museum for their hard work restoring it.

Great news and great article!
The Hub City Heritage Corporation is the sole entity to preserving rolling stock of the CGW. They are in need of financial assistance, and physical labor in preserving what they have. If you have not been to Oelwein, it is one of those spots that you need to visit. The 116 A, while in need of traction motors and some other items to truly make this motor fully operational, it can be done. Please consider helping them out.
Sweet sound.
It may be more accurate to comment that the C&NW acquired the CGW for scrap value and to eliminate a competitor, hardly a merger.
Well said Mr. Larson. The abandonments started the day after the merger.
The prior paint scheme they used for this unit was an impressively complex one, but because the collection is not under cover the paint was looking drab and tired when the C&NW Historical Society visited the museum a couple of years ago. It looks freshened up now. That museum can use financial assistance for other projects too - the wood running boards on their CGW boxcar were badly deteriorated when we were there (something you could see from the tower, a somewhat rickety climb), again because the rolling stock is outside.
Charity Search Engines as a source of new funds.
