As a kid in Garrett in the 1959-61 period, I used to ride my bike down to the station for the arrival of the Capitol Limited in the neighborhood of 7 PM. At this point in time its was always combined with the Columbian’s coaches. In the spring the coaches would be filled with school kids making their Field Trip to DC. On the Eastbound trip the were in high spirits - on the Westbound trip at about 5 AM they were knocked out.
The B&O Passenger Dept. did a great job of lining up school trips to DC from all around the Midwest.
A few days after my return to Chicago, the Chicago Architectural League held a dinner-and-dance ball inb the station, and I went with an unmarried secretary, at vthe invitationbofv client Skidmore Owens & Marrill. I had worked withy them on the Aitrforce Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs and Chicago’s McCormick Place Cionvention Center. Other BBNers were invited with their wives.
