Chicago Transit Authority to offer free rides for students on the first day of school

As a kid growing up in Iowa, I could never figure out why magazines and calendars waited until September and June, respectively, to run their back-to-school and School’s Out! themes when school had already started in late August, and when it ran into June only if it had been a hard winter with an extraordinary number of snow days.

In any case, whatever it takes to get the kids into the transit habit. Go CTA!

Wow they start late. Arkansas schools started August 18.

On Long Island in the 50’s, school started on the Wednesday after Labor Day, unless the Jewish calendar put the Holy Days in that or the next week; In our district, slightly over half the school students and some of the teachers, would “observe” the holidays, just requiring a second start-up.
Generally, the school year ended 3 weeks into June, barring snow day adjustments.
Does that help, Ed?
147,000 free rides…I wonder how many NYC free riders there’d be?
