Another member, Chris from Denver posted the rest of Ed’s pictures yesterday.
Ed,
Do you know if these loco’s will be shipped BNSF or UP? Could you please let us know how and when they leave…Thanks for the pics and great story…Danny
I’m gonna have to head down to the Iowa Interstate and see these locos as soon as they arrive
Another discussion group says they’re being routed BNSF to the Quad Cities.
(Will CSX let them on the part of the line that they own? I’ll be spending more time in Joliet if they do!)
Thanks, Bergie, for posting this, Ed has done some really good photos and I hope he’ll be able to get some in the Cab. Chris’ posting of the photos really does them up great.
Maybe we can get an idea which way they will roll to Iowa. They seem to be on TTX flats and also BNSF flats, I ha personally hope for UP to bring them through SE Kansas. But it sounds like BNSF may be the routing.
Sam
Wow! It’s really true. More info on when they come to IAIS would be nice.
Hey Bergie. Does Ed win a prize for getting his pictue posted to the News Wire? [?] I noticed you didn’t use the one of him in it… LOL [:-^] [swg]
Let’s hope we get that chance, Joey. They may opt to run them only on the Illinois end of the line.
I don’t care what the news column said–they’re going to the IAIS because they’re already black and red![:-,]
Ok, they will move on the BNSF…
BNSF published the move on their website, so it is no longer privileged info…

For you Iowa fans, here is their link to the home page…

There are quite a few additional links at the above site.
And I got a few shots of the Qs in action on home turf…courtesy of a fan who was a regular in China…as soon as I hear from him that it is OK to share, I will…
Same as before, email me.
And of course, with the OK, I will send them to Chris…
Ed
Evidently the routing is still privleged. I am hoping they will roll overland to KC and then turn east but am not holding my breath. Have they left Huoston.?
As of today at 2:30 pm…no.
But I am off work the next 2 days, so if they scoot out before sat. I will not know till I get back to work.
Ed
Hey, Ed.

Now, if we can find out which route they will move on…Would be nice, but not necessary due to the good photos supplied by Ed.
I am all for steam power but I view it as an insult that they didn’t find steam engines that were made and used here in America. I may be the only one with this view but that is how I feel.
This country made some mighty fine steam power. This country exported fine steam power to other nations.
I know American made steam engines are not as prevelant today as they were 50 years ago, but they can be found. Some museums have working steam power that possibly could have been leased.
They got these for the cost of a recertification,FRA update, shipping and some cash. They got them cheap… These were and still are working steam engines. Find some one to sell you their working steam engine for cheap and I know a man who will buy it. He is the president of a large railroad and wants one for his collection of one foot to the foot garden railway. There aren’t any this big that work for sale at any price. If one shows up painted black, yellow and red I told you first. They have an option for 3 more. These are big toys, for big boys with deep pockets. [:D]
Some years ago I used to received a sales magazine call Railway Marketplace. I don’t know if it is still published or not. However, they listed steam engines, diesel engines, and lots of other railroad related items for sale. They always had a large steam engine for sale. Sometimes a 4 6 4, sometimes a 4 8 4, but steam engines were being bought and sold.
There is currently a 2 6 0 for sale and listed by Ozark Mountain RailCar.
Steam engines can be bought. You just have to know where to look.
Granted, I really would like something larger is I were buying one. [:D]
We have a light Russian Decapod in Belton MO (2-10-0) which would be close to the 2-10-2 imported. It is low milage and has a good pedigree. The cost of restoring her or any others that we are the caretakers of is considered prohibitive. There are some light duty tourist engines avaliable. The ones that can pull a long heavy business train at speed(79mph) to impress investers are rare. The ones that there are have all been approached and want to keep what they have or want much more than the cost of these engines… Hard to pry one lose after the 7-10 years to restore them and the huge amount of money required. While 4 restored “F” units are impressive its just not the same as UP’s steam program. Yes I now their’s are restored US engines. The imported 2-10-2 would make an excelent substitute since his line extends beyond US borders. If you know of any such an engine please share with us. [2c]
It sounds like IAIS is just “testing” them until a tourist line or something buys the engine? Heck, maybe IAIS will be so impressed they will keep the steam and run it alongside their GP38s.
I hope they sell both and exercise their option on the 3 more. I love steam no matter who built them.
