Any suggestions on what chip to put in a Stewart Hobbies Baldwin VO-1000. It looks a little tightbunderbthe hood

Sound, or not sound? I use TCS T-1’s in mine for non-sound, they fit fine.

(top one - also shows how I bend the leads of some golden-white LEDs to repalce the stock yellow ones.)

It does fit fine, but if you are concerned then the MC2 from TCS would take up even less space.

I used the Lil soundtrax unit (non sound ) mc1h102p8 ,it just plugs in and goes ,not bad .

0n my sound one I used the tsunami bw1000 w/Baldwin 608 its not exact match but the sound samples sound very close to the power plant of the vo-1000,to me anyhow[;)]

its not a difficult install at all even put in a rotary beacon made out of the old yellow led head lite(I replaced the stk ones ), great engine sound still not happy with my horn choice …Jerry

Thanks, I can get the TCS chips in the UK and thn start to save up for a sound chip later

Stephen, I almost wrote to say you must be from the UK. Chip seems to have become the de facto term for a decoder in the UK and the verb, to chip, describes the action of installing said chip. Do you get your American locos from the US, or from a UK source? If you have not used TCS decoders before, you are in for a treat. The auto setting BEMF (Make sure you get one with BEMF and not an old stock decoder) work superbly. Look at the slow crawl of this loco using a T1 decoder with keep alive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBgCaBHZ8UU&list=UU2p1cqCGy-W5bPsoinOHZmA&index=3&feature=plcp I happen to be a Brit living on the other side of the pond, so enjoy running British stuff on US rails.

Does seem to be very common usage lately. However, if I ever get the chance to visit the UK and order chips, I’ll be expecting something to eat, not something to install in my models [:D]

Haven’t videod one of my Stewart switchers, but one of them I often spend my time switchign the coal ard ont he club layout with, and it goes so smoothly and slowly with the T1 decoder that I can watch the Kadee couplers open as it inches into a car. Hmm, I may have pulled my camera car with it on one trip, but the video I have up is a trip using my MTH FA’s. I have to get on the ball and finish processing the other ones, it’s only been since July.

Yes UK based will specify the emf version. When installed will be having a run out on the local club’s layout called ‘Menasha’ as the switcher
