Choo Choo Barn: It’s all relative

its worth the drive to see it

Great article, what ever happened to the father George who started it all back in 1961?

Excellent! Thanks.

Great article! For those of us with work to do on our layouts…this should be the ultimate inspiration. Hats off to the Groff family.

Great article even after 20 years.

Nice to see Jim Bunte’s name again. Where is he now?

The Choo Choo Barn has certainly been a landmark attraction for half a century. Having visited this wonderful attraction on many occasions over the years I always come away seeing new features added to the layout.

The first thing that makes this layout so much different from the annual train gardens you see at holiday time is the realism created by Tom Groff and his staff. The numerous animations and realistic looking buildings and structures, many of which were scratch built, immediately give you the impression that the layout is real!

The Choo Choo Barn was instrumental in my layout design. My wife and I wanted to create a smaller edition of the Choo Choo Barn by featuring as many animations as we could realistically could do on our 8’x16’ layout.

Tom is certainly a man with a vision and has pushed the envelope of creativity and realism over the years as he has continued to improve on a great model railroading attraction.

Our family visited the Choo Choo Barn many years ago. Both articles bring back good memories of the Choo Choo Barn and the other attractions nearby. Glad to see that children of all ages are still enjoying trains both big and small.

It’s like going to a wonderland great work

Good article on a historic layout. I wish you had included the months that CHOO CHOO BARN was open and the hours of operation each day.

I enjoy visiting the Choo Choo Barn. It is a great source of ideas

Anyone at all interested in trains should plan a visit to Lanchaster, Pennsylvania. My family and I did so several times in the 70’s and 80’s. Not only can you visit the wonderful Choo Choo barn, but only short drives away is the Pennsylvania RR Museum, the Stratsburg “Railroad to Paradise” and, as mentioned, The Model RR Museum. Also, not too far away, is the outstanding display of Road Side America. I am looking forward to taking my grandchildren in the next couple of years.
I enjoy your CTT magazine. S.Gregg Minor

Been there, seen it many times. Never ceases to amaze me.

The layout looks very interesting. The last time i was there it was closed for renovations, hope to get there this fall.
