there are so many of these things…i need about 20 more poll spaces [:D][:D][:D][:D]
ok…i listed C40-8 twice…ignore the one with the C39-8. i couldnt remember what that other special Conrail/NS GE was…
why are there so many of this type of poll?! [:D] I know that 4884bigboy started 3 of them!
I voted for ac4400, the first good quality locomotive i purchased.
23 ton boxcab.
Problem with GE’s they are so slow to load. Once you got them going, they could really pull, but I really did not like the response. Hard to get a feel for what they’re doing. I voted for the C30-7 just to have something to vote for.
[:)][:D][8D][;)]I got to see plenty of Seaboard Coast Line U33 and U36Bs in action. Since the 70s were the days before the madated “quieting down” of locomotives, the diesels in these were LOUD and could make windows in houses vibrate when throttling up with heavy loads. [:0][;)][tup] I loved it! They “chugged” compared to EMD dash 2s turbocharged “whines” (which also sounded neat). At full throttle, you could hear U-Boats from 2 miles away!
The dash 7s were simply new, upgraded U Boats. I’ve heard that many engineers weren’t to fond of U boats or Dash 7s as they were slower to load and electrical problems could surface often. [sigh]
AC4400 are cool.
The 44 tonners are fun to operate, even more fun to add DCC to! Cute lil buggers!
" is dat a u-boat?"[?]
“no, datsa my train!” [;)]
On 2nd thought. my favorite GE is the icebox upstairs!!![(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
8500 hp Big Blow gas turbine
Now wait just a cotton pickin minute…
GG1 …Baldwin/GE product
E60s, E33s, E44s and all the other cat and dog juice jacks???
4 to be exact[:D][;)]. GP, F, E, and SD. Anyway, I voted other, the 8,500 hp Gas Turbines ruled supreme over todays GEs!
If we’re including “electrics” then I’ll add the sleek looking New Haven EP5a.
Dharmon,
Westinghouse also contributed greatly to the GG1. Have to admit that It really is a star in the electrics class.
Mine are the C32-8, C39-8 phase 1 and 2, C40-8 and C40-9.
Ac4400
Why were the electrics excluded? GE made some wonderful juice jacks. My favorite is the E2b. But I like the E44 and E40 also.
electric were left off because i dont know anything about them, and there wernt enough spaces for any more models.
looks like i put the 8-40B twice also…
Favorite GE? HAH! I don’t really like them, however, I can’t say no to BN U30Cs.
Plus, what’s the difference between an AC4400CW and a C44ACCTE?
Trainboy
BTW: Someone mentioned on the TRAINS FORUM that at least one E33 electric is preserved in a Connecticutt museum. I’m so glad I got to see these giants operate when I was a kid. They were in New Haven colors for a while after the Penn Central merger.
Paul3 referred to them as “mishapen bricks” on a Penn Central thread last year. To me, that body style was symbolic of durability and horsepower.
The GE MU’s used on the Metro North to New Haven are my personal favorites…no poll slots for them!
45 ton, 300hp, with a Cooper-Bessemer diesel, for sure.
