[:D] At our house, my wife and children (all age 20+) and I make lists of suggested Christmas gifts available to the rest of the family. I put “caboose” on my list.
My wife just got an education in caboose vocabulary from the LHS owner. (My wife is not into trains in any way.) So, after talking to the LHS, she called me at work. “What’s a cupola, anyway?” Do you need a bay window? etc. I had to laugh, it was so funny.
The list works, though. Last Christmas, I got a set of 5 Clinchfield coal hoppers from one of my daughters. That’s a 1000 times better than a necktie.
It is nice to work from lists when you want something specific.
My list this year is filled with rr stuff, but my mother-in-law got me “something” from the trains shop prior to reading the list… I am sure everything will work out, but a small part of me is a little afraid… [;)]
That wouldn’t be so bad, since it is at least a steamer, and I could always repaint/detail/upgrade it…
I am more afraid of something the wrong scale (like LGB or something, when I actually run HO), or the wrong era (here’s a nice Auto-Max car carrier to go with your turn of the (20th) century steamers). Something that I cannot use at all, but is so recognizable that I cannot return it without it being missed the next time she visits. Either that or a goofy engineers cap. [;)]
Andrew
PS Hope I didn’t offend anyone with the “goofy” cap remark - me and hats just do not get along… [:)]
i’m putting a ton of train stuff on my list for parents. as for my aunt and uncle i gurantee i’ll get some stupid shirt like usual. my grandma will also give me a shirt 2 sizes to big and like $35 which will go to the trains. should be interesting. depending on what i get this weekend i’ll put on a list for my parents. i doubt i’ll get any of it but he its worth a try.
most likely i’ll get a ton of money and CDs. can’t go wrong with CDs though.
I’m easy to please.
For Christmas you can get me Bachmann’s new large scale Porter, unlettered, so I can add my own lettering, and I’ll promise to be a good boy for the next year…
Of course, if I dont get it, I’ll be a REAL BAD BOY next year…
Sometimes I think it is better to make a list with different presents in various price ranges and give it to your LHS guy. Then head the spouce, mistress, significant other, son, daughter, cats and dogs, over to the LHS; that way, no one has to do the thinking.
I’m hoping to get the Overland limited HO set by bachman or the Frontiersman set by bachman. A smoke ready 4-8-4 and a 2-8-0! Cool! Of course, the Trix Big Boy is on the list as well, as is the lionel HO challenger.
My girlfriend has been getting me some great train stuff for the last couple years, except there is a bit of a catch: I model the Toronto area and have a liking for the Canadian National. My girlfriend, being part french, greatly prefers the Canadian Pacific, while both lines are represented on my pike, she takes great pains to buy the most beautiful CP equipment she can find.
For my birthday this year I got a Kato CP Exec end car, damn thing puts my best CN coaches to shame. I have a feeling I am going to see some Walthers streamliners in CP maroon replacing the usual Go Transit train around the tree on Christmas Morning.
My birthday is really close to christmas.
I get burned out by then. I saw a cool new
MRC sound unit, Town and Country Sound.
I would like !!! It is on my list.
well i’m going to be adding a ton of stuff to a list for my parents. after the show i got a lot of stuff but nothing to special really. just a few pieces of rolling stock. i want to get 2-3 or more locomotives for sure before the next show. most lilkely that will come by mail order. probably from Walthers most likely.
Yes, my list will include some items for my layout along with some other things. Since my father-in-law in into “G” scale ops, I don’t think I have a problem with NOT getting anything for my layout! Enjoy the holidays everyone!
well i got my gift. i wanted a CB&Q GP-7 ever since i went to my first show maybe 4 weeks ago. i liked the color on the locomotive. just the whole grey thing was the best part. thats why i like the Southern Pacific to is b/c of the grey.
