Since I have already started a thread with pictures of the layout, I’ll follow up with some close up shots of the “little people” that the overall views do not do justice to. All of the figures originally came with the houses. They are “collectibles” from Hawthorne Village, which I inherited from my father when he had to go into assisted living. The toy vehicles I picked up separately at various stores through the years. I’ll grab one whenever I find something that looks to be approximately in scale and appropriate for the period.
My Commadore Vanderbilt was bought by my Grandmother in 1943 for $1 at GC Murphy for my Dad, who passed it onto to his kid brother. Uncle Jim left it to me and the rest of his trains when he passed.
My 226E taking a spin on Uncle Jim’s platform.
Uncle Jim’s 2020. I grew up watching this engine on this platform at my Grandparents when Uncle Jim let me work the switches. The Keystone on this Turbine is one of the reasons I’m a Pennsy nut.
After taking the pics of the tree this year, I realized that it was 40 years ago this Christmas that I got my original Lionel train set that started my love of trains. So earlier this evening, I got out the original box for some pics.
Holy smoke, I remember that Lionel box being on the shelf at Hiway Hobby House in Ramsey NJ in the 70’s! Has it really been 40 years? Where did the time go?
Well, as they say “Time flys when you’re having fun!”
Merry Christmas to you sir!
PS: That box has held together a lot better than I have!
