Christmas Trains

Is there going to be a Christmas Train going through your area this year collecting donations for local food banks? I haven’t heard anything regarding a Christmas Train coming through Cranbrook. When I lived in Nelson for a few years, one went through about every two years. A problem was the track through Nelson had some problems handling the 4400 horsepower engine.

The Kansas City Southern’s Santa Claus Express is currently making its annual run which began on Nov. 23rd with 22 stops scheduled in the states of MS, LA, AR, TX, OK, KS and MO. Today it is in Drexel, MO and will be in Kansas City for three days beginning tomorrow which will end its run for this year. It made its annual stop in my hometown of Shreveport on Dec.3. After the stint in Kansas City it will return to its home base in Deramus Yard in Shreveport where it will stay until the 2013 holiday season.

Get rid of them and paint everything in primer to save money. Employees and shareholders would much rather see that money spent on raises and dividend payments. Anything that doesn’t contribute to the bottom line or increased safety in operations is waste and should be cut out.

Next you’ll be saying every fool going around saying “Merry Christmas” should be boiled in a plum pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart! Jeez!

CP’s holiday train has been making the rounds, witness the image of it on Tunkahannock Viaduct in the photo contest.

I suspect that if engineers/crews still had their “own” equipment, you’d see some decorations on the “regular” trains.

No…that would be too expensive.

In 1999 BNSF ran a Santa Claus Express through our area (Near St. Louis, MO). In 2000 it was unable to leave Springfield, MO because it got snowed in. BNSF canceled all furure Christmas trains saying that they can do more for kids with their Employee Specials. This ticked off many cities in the state, but you can’t make railroads do what you want them to do. If we want to see a Christmas train we have to go farther north or into Illinois, unless settle for the model railroad clubs in the area.

I wish the CP train would come down to St. Louis area, would love to see it. I have heard KCS train used to come across the state to our town, but no longer. Didn’t know BNSF ever tried to run one.

But I can always visit the Big Bend Railroad Club that meets in the former Frisco depot in Webster Groves, MO, they do a great job of putting on a Xmas display show.

Interesting that you mention that club. I joined them in '84 and have been secretary for most of that time. We are running one last Tue. evening tonight and the next 2 Sat. afternoons until we resume the regular one night a month in Jan. We have a Facebook page for a couple of years now with followers in 8 other countries. If you or anyone else on this thread want to know more about the oldest club in the St. Louis, MO area (Since 1938), e-mail me at secretary@bigbendrrclub.org. Somewhere on Trains video section we have a video posted which was shot by the local PBS station. You can also search on YouTube with the key words; KETC Frisco Trains.

Last Saturday, Ulrich, I was riding home with a train full of Santa Clauses. And one Grinch. The Grinch was carrying a can of primer–Grinch green primer. Was that you?
