we were about done with supper on New Years, when the wife jumped up and grabbed the phone. she called someone, and she told me while she was at the local IGA she had sotted an ad for a Lonel Set. I had bee on vacation, and with Christmas, told her I didn’t have any trai money right now. she said, well talk to him anyway.the man said it was his Granfathers set, and had been in the cellar since th '80s. he said it had a steam engine. I asked him if there was a cab nmber.he started…113 (great, a Scout), no he said, it’s 262. I asked him waht he was asking, and whle not bad, I didn’t remember what engine tis ws. I said I’d call him tomorrow. I went and got my book, and found out it was a 2-4-2 from '31-'32.thw wife asked when I was going to look at them. Again I said I didn’t have the cash. well, lets go look anyway. we got to his place, and he showed me someting i had never seen before.A Prewar setbox for Outfit 133. inside were all th indivudle boxes, in beautiful shape. a few of the flaps are off, but there. he kept telling me that the trains hadn’t done well sitting in the basement all these years.
when he pulled the trains frm there boxes, the looked brand new. the tender has one small spot with surface rust, and a few of the copperournals are a little green. The wife could tell I wanted them, so she bought them on the spot.
great gal!
