Church?

What are some of the best church models that you know of? Scale doesn’t matter. Thanks, Stephen

I used the church model by IHC for my layout. It has the look of a small country church and was relatively inexpensive (about $10 or $12 I think). Here’s a pic (you can double-click on the pic for a larger view). The gravestones are from the Woodland Scenics kit.

Now that is a church! I may have to so dome “Churching up!” he he.

I have the same with a funeral procession in progress, hearse, limos etc.

I like the little country churches - they are quaint and cozy, belong on the layout.

if it is background only then perhaps a scaled photo would be another option for a favourite chruch - again I vote for the little country church

the Chrystal Cathedral - would be interesting… kidding, too elaborate for the country (or most any layout for that matter) but can you imagine kitbashing that model ??? - you’d need a greenhouse

Perhaps you can have another church with a wedding down the road. =) Have both processions meet in the road while working out who will pass first. I think I would do something like that someday.

I have the IHC church but right now it’s a disaster!..I let one of my scouts do it as a project for the Railroading Merit badge and …well…the boy doesn’t have much talent for building models…so…one of these days i’m going to have to pull it out and redo a lot of it…especially the paint job…he painted the model with a 1’ brush…sheez!..Chuck

That is a pretty generic question… since churches (and church models) come in all shapes & sizes (ignoring scales), I’d first ask small, medium or large? The IHC church comes to mind as a small one as does one from Model Power. There is an Atlas cathedral that looks pretty ornate. if size (and money) isn’t a problem, there are some beautiful kits from some of the European manufacturers that are really nice looking, and I imagine that they go together very well. You might do a search on the Walthers website using church and cathedral for some ideas.

Check the Walther’s catalogue–Faller makes some interesting churches that could be used very well in an American setting, especially if you’re interested in modeling either Catholic or Lutheran structures. They look as if they could also be ‘Americanized’ pretty easily for other Protestant denominations.

Stephen,
Although I already have a comunity church model from a Campbell Scale Models kit
359:

modeled after a 1910 era church in California, one kit that I plan to buy in the near future is the First Community Church, Kit 110, from Main Street Heritage Models:

I like its gothic styling. It reminds me of a gothic chapel in my wife’s home town.

Faller, Piko & Pola do a range of churches - although admittedly with a European feel to them. Hornby also have a church in their Skaledale and Lydde End ranges.

I purchased the Atlas kit and after I had it painted and assembled, I realized that it is a little to
large for what I’m trying to model. It would fit well in a city scene, but doesn’t go well in
a small town type setting. It is a nice kit, just a little BIG. Dave

a renovated barn would make a nice country church

Main Street Heritage has just come out with a nice looking kit:

I have put together a few of their kits, and they are all very well done. I have not seen the church kit, though.
