I have an old broken Lionel 0-27 caboose that I recycled the excellent truck onto another caboose. I would like to place the broken caboose in my industrial park to serve as a storage or welding shed. Any ideas on how to make it look like it’s up on blocks or girders? I don’t want to just place it on the ground. Thanks.
If you have a Hobby Lobby near by, they have Bass Wood in 1/4 x 1/4 or 1/2 x 1/2 inch square about 2 feet long. You can make some nice framing to set the caboose on. I have done it to a couple of the junkers so far.
I’m not a great modeler, but this has worked well for me: cut wood into whatever size/shape you want & paint it with Rust-oleum American Accents Stone spray paint. It is a textured paint that looks very much like concrete, in my opinion.

X2 on what Wyomingscout said, only I use gray latex paint that I mix sand into (in the right proportions, which is to say that you just have to experiment with it until it looks right.) The finished product makes whatever you paint it onto look like concrete. Good luck!

If you can use the dimensions of prototype cinder blocks, or “concrete masonry units” as the Portland Cement Association prefers to call them, they are 8 x 8 x 16 inches, which is tiny in 1/48 scale.
You could also go to your home improvement center, into the tile department, and take a look at some of the smaller tiles used as borders and accents, cut the individual tiles from the webbing and experiment with those.
