Circuitron "application note 6000-07"

Hey,

I’m wondering what deep and dark mysteries are revealed in this legendary document?

[Googling “AN-6000-07” turns up a bunch of copies of the standard Tortoise driving instructions - which refer you to this doc, but no where can I find it…]

Any ‘clues’ much appreciated

Thx,
Ian

I think that one might have to do with how to wire bi-color LEDs to give switch position indication. Not real tough - wire them both on one side of power or the other, placing both anode leads (the long ones) facing each other. Works like a charm.

I have not read this particular Application Note but from what Circuitron state in their instructions, is that the auxilary contacts within the Tortoise are only designed for a maximum of one (1) amp of current. If you need to switch heavier currents then you will have to connect a relay to these contacts.
For example, a miniature 5A DPDT relay similar to the Radio Shack 275-249 would provide ample current for most applications. Also providing additional switching circuits for any number of different functions.
I imagine that Application Note AN-6000-02 will provide the detailed wiring diagrams to show various methods of connecting signaling circuits and the frog via this additional relay.

Thx Scott:

I’m sure you are correct - quoting from the Tortoise instruction sheet:

“Panel lights / signals (See diagram 4 above or request AN-6000-07 for more detailed wiring diagrams” - As panel lighting and signalling is where I’m at right now it piqued my interest. But,

What amazes me is that it’s not available on the web! [Everything’s on the web!! :-)] - I can’t see it as a copyright issue as the ‘main’ manual (sic) is there, but none of the notes they mention seem to be available - AN-6000-02 is another, which suggests probably AN-6000-01 thru at least 07 exist somewhere… I’m just kind of intrigued!

Cheers,
Ian
PS - I should change ‘not available’ to ‘I can’t find it’ of course - Hopefully someone will send a link to it…

We used to call it “Job security” [:D]

Thx to Chuffed!

The plot thickens! - Quote Scott:

“I think this one discusses…”

Quote Chuffed:

"I imagine that this one… "

Are these things secret documents or something!

[Now I really want to get my eyeballs on the sucker!]

Sorry! just realised, wrong application note. My instructions only refer to AN-6002-01[geometry of spring wire] and AN-6002-02 [relay] Nothing about -07

Oh! what the heck, my panel lights and signals work just fine!

Well Ian, you piqued my interest and I had to go looking.

These application notes are not such a secret any more.

Take a look at:

http://amhobby.com/products/tech/circuitron.html

Although the application notes are not numbered and all do not appear in the “manual” there are seven of them and the first second and seventh match the instructions.

I can sleep peaceful tonight! [zzz]
