Circumvesuviana

We will be going to Italy next spring and plan to travel from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuvia train. Would appreciate any tips or first hand experience.

I think this is the same route that we rode in ?2008? while on a cruise. We went as far as Pompeii (very hot midday in June).

Train ride was OK, but memories were mostly about Pompeii…

In 1976 I rode Rome to Naples to Sorrento, stayed in Sorento, including a day trip on a hydrofoil to Capri, and a ride on a funicular, or inclined railway.

During the week or so that we, that is my high school group, stayed in Sorento we also took a day trip to Pompei, which involved changing trains.

At the end of the wek we rode back to Naples, and then to Rome.

I don’t remember anything wrong about schedule frequency or connections, the equipment was multi-section articulated cars, I think 3 sections per car, and probably at least 2 or 4 car trains.

Of course a lot could have happened, both good and bad since 1976.
