I wasn’t aware of these landmarks, I’ll have to visit them soon.

City Dogs Rescue can, you can.
Western CT Chapter, NRHS raises over $900 using Charity Search Engine.

Hope it can be saved. Looks great there with 1223 and the rest of the rail equipment.

Funny, but when I read the headline, I thought of this coal dock! I visited once in 2009. It looked good for another 80 years. Of course the filthy, oily yard that once was there has been covered with an incongruous green lawn so the experience of visiting lacks any reality to railroading. Still, of course, the preserved locomotive, (of which only two still exist,) the freight cars and the dock are far better than the alternative. Shame the dock may be destroyed.

It would be great if the finances could be found to keep the coal dock from destruction. Here in Launceston Tasmania, my grandfather worked on the building of a huge concrete coaling dock in the early days. It was quite a significant part of the railyards, but unfortunately was not saved when our "old “railyards” were “re-vitalised” into a community precinct. Some aspects of the railyards were preserved for posterity such as the Roundhouse (greatly altered) and Workshops, but no use could be found for the coaling tower.
That’s the trouble with history, once it is torn down, it will only live in our memory. The next generation unfortunately, do not possess that memory to begin with unless they can see or visit it…

Yes, another " dinosaur " from the real age of railroading is in the sights of a demolition crew. How sad to see such structures of beauty be blown into just memories of the people that remember steam engines as living, breathing animals.

We have a coal tipple in Bartlesville, OK that rivals this one, and probably in better condition. It was used by the K-T railroad. Hate to see any of our historic past leveled.

I hope they dont tear it down.
