City of San Francisco diesel not

My dealer got in all the BWL city of LA and SF engine sets and sent them back,
They had no names on the sides. Too bad I was looking forward to the models.

WELCOME ABOARD!

You’re on the right track.

I wrote wrong before:
SORRY !!!
Because of interchangeability the E7 “CITY OF LA and SF” were delivered with the red band but no slogan !!!

So the BLI are CORRECT !!!

Somewhere I’ve seen a picture of these units, and they should have a stainless steel set of nose wings with C&NW and UP (and for the City of SF only) SP badges.

How could they do that: put SP badges on the LA locomotives?

Although they are said to have been renumbered before entering service, there probably are EMD builder’s photos showing the original LA and SF numbers, making it “fair game” for a model.

There doesn’t seem to be a photo in “UP Streamliners”, however.

Peter

HI PETER,

NEE with wings were the E6 !!!

Ulrich, (and any others interested)

I’ve searched through Kratville’s “UP Streamliners” for details of the “City” E-7s. There were two A-B-B sets built as SF 7/8/9 (renumbered 907/8/9) and LA 7/8/9 (renumbered 927/8/9). There were two spare A units, numbered 930/1 which were said to be spare for both trains (but were numbered in the LA series, and had only the two UP and C&NW badges). There is only one photo of 931 (on page 563 of UP Streamliners) and it isn’t clear if it is lettered on the red band. On page 583, there is a photo clearly showing the nose only of 907. It is clearly carrying the three badges SP, UP,C&NW, left to right on the stainless steel nose wings. This suggests that it is lettered “City of San Francisco” since it has the SP badge. The diagram of 907 on the BLI website incorrectly shows only the two “LA” badges.

On page 316, there is a clear photo of 907/8/9 in Cheyenne in 1947, and all three units are clearly lettered “City of San Francisco”. I haven’t found any photos of LA units, but since BLI got 907 wrong, I imagine they got 927 (illustrated by photos on their website) wrong also.

Do they provide lettering to add to the units?

As I said above, it is possible that the “spare” units 930 and 931 carried no lettering (or possibly dark lettering). They would provide the prototype for a single unit working on other services.

But BLI seem to have got it wrong this time!

Peter

A further question, I assume that the Proto 2000 E-7s for the CoLA and CoSF were correctly lettered? We didn’t get any of those E-7s in this part of the world. Perhaps the dealer over-ordered E-6s and wanted to avoid the problem a second time.

Peter

yes they are , I have P2K E7A coSF #907A,
and coLA E6 #924A, 925B and 926B

and at a much better price!

What color UP yellow is BLI using for the COSF?
The PK2 E6’s I have are a horrible shade of yellow that is more to the red side of yellow. Proto has painted almost every different model they’ve come out with a different shade of UP yellow.
I’m hoping BLI gets it right. For that price they had better.

Dave

The early Bachmann Spectrum Dash 8s were almost white! Very pale yellow, looking “faded”. The BLI website has photos, which apart from the lack of lettering for the train name, look OK!
