City Of San Francisco Food Cars

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows what food service cars were used on the City of San Francisco with the 3/4 domes around 1967-1970? More specifically what cars did the SP run on the train before the equipment change in Ogden. Thanks very much.

From the Oct 1970 Official Guide: UP, City of San Francisco, Equipment,
Dining Car…Chicago to San Francisco-- Club and a la carte service.

The UP did not allow the SP to substitute an Automat car for the diner.

I really wanted to solve the question, but my OG library ends with a 1964 edition. I stopped acquiring the further editions because it was just too depressing to read and study them after reading about the coordination, scheduling, availability, etc. from the preceding years.

I know the feeling.

Plenty of UP timetables at Index of /UP-PTT

The 1970 presence of a dining car was in response to the ICC rulings that allowed WP to discontinue the California Zephyr. SP was allowed to reduce the City to a tri-weekly train as long as the amenities were upgraded and coordinated with the BN/D&RGW “California Zephyr Service”.

The diner was an SP car that turned at Ogden - Food service east of Ogden was provided on the “City of Los Angeles”, which became part of the “City of Everywhere” picking up cars at Green River (Portland) and North Platte (Denver) and shedding a few cars at Cheyenne (Kansas City).

SP at least kept its trains clean right up to April 1971.
