Classic Metal Works " Mini Details"

Just a heads-up for those of you who were thinking of ordering the Mini Details 60’s Coca Cola Vending Machines… in this case the product line name is TOO true. They are MINI!! Though advertised as HO scale, these Coke Machines scale out at FOUR feet tall!! The 50’s series machines are 5 ft high, passable, but still too short…

I was in a local brewpub last night, and they had an old Coke machine. It was between 4 and 5 feet tall. I didn’t actually go up and measure it, but it wasn’t as big as what we are used to seeing today.

Like these:?

That model on the right could quench my thirst [Y]

30 Grand?! But then I see that’s for two! Elyria is only an hour away from me [:)] I wonder if they’ll take a check?

Cheers, Ed

Since their new owner took control (a toy company) I have not seen any of their newer releases. A frind recently bought some tractor/trailers and he said they were not up to the old quality standards. He said the tires were pretty lame and the 5th wheels had issues too. He also mentioned the paint was sloppy.

I think I view his claim about these being a non depreciating asset about the same as his claim that Coca-Cola is healthy and good for you.

But if he throws in the corresponding two girls with the machines it might be worth what he’s asking… [}:)]

Seeing you post. I checked the CMW facebook site. You are correct, they are being roasted for poor quality on their recent HO & N scale releases Even worse, there is mention of resin bodies (and not necessarily high quality resin castings either). The plastic vehicles they did were fine, but resin, I dunno. One thing on the Facebook page was a post not far down the page announcing their new…1960 Ford pickup. I was a bit surprized, as I have had this model in my collection for years - turns out a) the post was from last 2016 and b) CMW doesn’t post too often on Facebook. Oh well, I guess there’s always Oxford and Brekina…
For a while it seemed as if all CMW did in HO/N was rerelease their recent offerings in different paint schemes, which didn’t entice me to break out my wallet - neither did their castings of sacks and crates.

I have not bought a new CMW release in a long time for the same reasons. The flood of new paint schemes on the same bodies did not thrill me at all.

That is such a shame. I have not bought any CMW Mini Metals in recent years, but what I do own seems to be pretty high quality.

I love my CMW models, but I think I have at least three of each of their models that are appropriate for 1954.

I think the newest release I bought was a 1950 Dodge in a green and white generic police scheme. It looks very good.

I believe Oxford only came out with one new body style this year, a 1954 Pontiac. I might have missed something if it was a model newer than 1954.

One of my favorite CMW Mini Metals vehicles is the Greyhound bus. I have buses going to various big cities for passengers arriving in Chicago at Dearborn Station.

Super detailing and paint quality.

I just have this one Trailways bus from CMW. It just says “Charter” on the front. Nice and generic, just the way I like.

-Kevin

Yep, Charter would work. Mine actually have the destination banners right above the front windshield.

On the truck tractor that I have seen at my LHS it has the fifth wheel on backwards. The resin boat and tow behind camping trailer plus the lowboy trailer really look…well I can not say that word here. What were they thinking.

I do have many CMW vehicles on the layout. I like the idea of CMW remaking the vehicles (the Ford Galaxie was the first one I noticed) out of plastic for awhile now, better detail and the metal older ones added alot of weight on the Auto Racks. I will still buy what I like and fits in, but not anything vehicle wise with the ugly resin junk.

12/17/20 Ok I lied, I saw the Garbage truck. It passed the OK test. I just needed to ream out the bodys wheel wells so the tires did not rub.
