I recently found some old videos from my archives of Metra trains at Dee Road in Park Ridge with the ex-C&NW commuter cars. I also shot the final F40PH in the RTA baby blue scheme!
Know what I miss the most about those old cars?
The gong bell (second video). When I’m riding the eastbound scoots these days, my favorite place is in the front, so I can look out when I want to see oncoming trains or details of the new track construction hereabouts. And the regular bell under the floor in the left front corner drives me bonkers (some would argue that it’s not a drive, just a short putt)!
They using real bells, or those speaker things that make a somewhat belly sound?
Well, bell-y sound I guess.
The current cars use real bells. The ringing isn’t what’s bothersome–it’s the mechanical noises associated with it.
