Hi! I’m an escapee from that other forum, you know the one where the guys play with Lionels.
I have a question that perhaps you might be able to answer. In “N” scale, what would the height and width of a door on a layout house or building be? I am well familiar with “HO” and “O” but have no clue when it comes to “N”. (Please in “inches” since I’m not good on “mm” conversions)
We are working on a project and I would like to be prepared should the topic come up.
Many thanks.
Hi “traindaddy,” It all depends on the size of your door. A 30-inch-wide interior door would be 3/16" wide in N scale; a 36-inch door would be 15/64". A 7-foot-tall door would be 17/32" high in N scale, while an 8-foot door would be 39/64". I know, sixty-fourths are tough to deal with too, which is why most of us use a scale rule like the General Hardware no. 1251, sold at most hobby shops. Or you can simply divide by N scale’s 1:160 proportion, as in 30 divided by 160 equals .188". Maybe that’s another good argument for the scale rule! Merry Christmas, Andy
Andy: I knew that, if I asked, I’d receive a most complete answer. This “older” guy who “plays with the bigger toys” thanks you. Have a great holiday!
