due to hurricane ivan, I have substained a loss of my train collection of standard trains. How would I COME UP WITH AN IDEA OF MY LOSSES FOR INSURANCE??? I have all receipts for the items bought, mostly from al cox and tony hay…also I had all the issue of toy train classics… any thoughts of the replacement value???.. I would appreciate any help. I will gladly communiate with those who would like to help…
hmmm…that is a very tough question to answer. My guess is that you put your train collection at a value of todays market from the receipts you have. Example, if you bought a item for $100.00 in 1980,then multiply that by 2. I am figuring that a model train item goes up in value every year, if not for every 5 or so. As for your collection of Classic Toy Trains,I am guessing that you put a price of when they were first put out,and what the cost was,then keep adding to it for when the publisher had to raise the price due to the cost of paper,printing,etc. I hope this helps. what I have done with my model railroad collection and magazines,is that I have put them all on a disc and as for my model train stuff,I too have that on a disc and it is on an inventory. Both the paper and discs are with me when I go out to work,and a copy of it is in a safe deposit box as well. let me know what issues if not all that you are missing.I have a few of them and would be glad to scan the important articles for you.Kalmbach may even have all the issues you need to replace. Then again I attend a few train shows here in Wisconsin,and I’d be glad to buy them for you and send them your way. Most of the mags I see are usually going for a dollar or in some cases free,if the seller just wants to get rid of them. Let me know if I can help you out.
