Does anyone recall a series of plactic model kits that were around in the 60’s and 70’s that were about 1/87 scale? I think they came in blue boxes. I thought they were Matchbox but everything I find on Matchbox suggests those were all die cast. These were plactic and we had several on the layout as a kid but just can’t remember who made them. Any help appreciated.
Paul, Around 1960 Athearn had a few Chrysler products they applied to auto racks and their car carrier trailers for the Ford two axle cabover tractors of the day. Haven’t seen hide nor hair of any in a looong time. I have two auto racks and three piggyback cars full of them.

You may be thinking of the Chrysler products that were originally made by Revell. Revell had them as RTR models. I remember that there was a Lancer wagon among those made. I don’t remember the color of the packaging under the Revell name.
Later ConCor had the same vehicles as a set of kits in a single box. The box on this was basically yellow with a picture on the top showing built up models. I think that there were five or six different models in the kit.
At the same time as the cars were released Revell also released an auto carrier and a Mayflour Moving van with Ford cabovers on both. The last listing I remember for the Ford tractors was from Heljan so they may have the dies for the cars as well.
These were much better detailed than the Athearn vehicles.

Doug/Paul, I may have lied. Doug’s mention of the Mayflower moving van jogged something in the oatmeal between my ears. I think the cars I mentioned before REALLY are Revell. I made a mobile machine shop out of the Mayflower rig. Sorry, that was more than a couple of days ago . . .

I think I found the answer. Mini Lindy was a brand of plastic model vehicle kits in near-1/87 scale. I think it was a British company, but produced American vehicles. Kits in the early 70’s that sold for $1.95 are now selling for $10+ on eBay.
