Clean Sweep

Well, it is time for spring/summer cleaning. Both my workshop and layout have accumulated the detritus of half dozen major projects, and a couple more minor ones. I also discovered that I have parts spread over several different sets of bins.

A trip to Home Depot netted some new shelving for the workshop, and some large plastic crates. This morning I assembled the shelving and started working through a stack of boxes. So far, I emptied three large boxes and filled up a contractors trash bag with junk for disposal.

Next, I hope to reorganize my parts bins, and make some sort of order out of my under construction projects. Then, finally give the layout a clean sweep.

Hi, Nick.

Congrats!!! It’s a good feeling getting a mess organized and being able to find things again. I recently got my train room in order again after about 2 years of layout construction and other work out there. I can actually see my workbench again and I discovered my paint booth! I made a commitment to cleaning and putting things away after I do some work and so far that’s been a big help.

The garage got a major makeover due to my buying a new car. Fortunately I bought a Sky Redline roadster and it’s small enough I didn’t have to throw out a lot of stuff. I made some new wall cabinets and a wood storage rack so now it’s very neat and I can find things again…including my new cool car!

Let’s hope we can BOTH keep things more tidy in the future. LOL

WHAT? You threw out some stuff? I thought we had to accumulate every bit of styrene, every shred of ground foam! Every window and door casting! Even the Rapido couplers and those wheels that have the giant flanges! Surely you’ll need that stuff for SOMETHING!

Now… Where’s my workbench, anyway? It’s got to be in here somewhere!

My workbench has a TOP! [(-D]

I’m almost done in the workshop. I discovered my workbench does in fact have a top. The in progress projects now reside in separate boxes, containing all the parts related to that project, so only the project I’m actively working on sits on the workbench. My unbuilt kits now inhabit crates on my new shelving, rather then being scattered all over. My vast collection of styrene is organized in some plastic drawers. The parts bins are nearly completely rearranged. And I also to work in space for my Chief Clerk’s desk and car card boards. [8D]

My next task is to clean up the layout room. [sigh]

Sounds great. I try to keep my workbench organized, but it usually is cluttered again after the completion of each major project.
