Cleaning locomotive wheels

In a rush to weather my steam loco for a photo shoot, I got some Dullcoat on the drivers’ conducting surfaces and I would like to remove it without using abrasives. Is there a chemical product that will take it off? Will 90% alcohol work? And does anyone know where to get a running rack (sets of stationary powered wheels to run a loco on to break it it or test the motor)?

I have used lacquer thinner to do such and it works well.[C):-)]

That’s very good advice. Ether based paint thinner would work well too. Then go back and do a final cleaning with alcohol just to be sure. Probably wouldn’t hurt to run it over a wire wheel cleaner as well.
