cleaning postwar diesels

How do you clean postwar diesels, specifically the shells? I just bought a F3 that has some dirt and grime. What kind of cleaning methods work best for the old paint and decals? Does wax hurt after the shell is clean? What type is best?

Thanks

I have a few F3’s…as for cleaning…i really like the paint on them…so i did not do any rubbing on them…i used Q-Tips and cleaned them with that blue cleaning solution that is at hobby stores…but watch decal…do not go near them…do not dip them in water or use a toothbrush…light clothes are fine…i like q-tips best…as for wax just make sure your q-tips are not used ones with ear wax on them…lol…just kidding…i never used any wax on any of my trains…i like the dull original shine on my postwars…thanks
