Cleaning wheels

Whats the best method to clean locomotive metal wheels?

I use nothing but a “Q” Tip and a little Rubbing Alcohol. Good Luck, Ron

I use smoke fuel it keeps the wheels free from dirt for about a month depending on how much you are running. If you are using track power I would recomend a quick once over with a cotton wool ball on loco wheels at the end of each running session IE 6 hours. hope this helps[:D]

Just this past Saturday I spent a couple of hours in the garage cleaning my loco(s) wheels and all rolling stock. I use a “Q” Tip and some alcohol. I then used a NEW method for cleaning my track. I used a drywall sander with used screen. The track came out real shiny and the Mikado ran very smooth. I’m am planning on attaching the drywall screen to the cleaning block of the Aristo track cleaning car. One pass is all the track needed by hand…and I was using very light pressure at that!

I have the LGB track cleaning engine and I save the cleaning pads, cut them in thirds and use these for cleaning metal wheels and sliders.

Clean wheels do make the engines run much better.
