Clinchfield in N scale

Does anyone remember what year MR did the series on modeling the Clinchfield railroad in N scale. I have been thinking that the plan might make a good starting point for modeling UP in Utah. I have started building modules of ogden but that plan might make a visually interesting layout as opposed to around the walls, etc.

1978, IIRC. The series later became a book.

I’m curious as to why you think that the plan might make a good starting point for modeling the UP in Ogden, since the Clinchfield has very little in common with the UP.

If I remember correctly it was an inside/outside oblong design. I’m thinking that the mountains as a backdrop using several of the tunnels would match the area going from Ogden to Taggard and up. The outside could be changed to fit the modules that I’ve already made that are one foot wide, and use the mountains to block the inside scenery which would be the mountainous clime east out of ogden. Nothing about the clinchfield part of it inparticular. Just wanted the track plan and some of their design ideas. may not work out, but that part of me that is getting tired of a switching layout, would like some continuous running while working on the railroad.

The book is still available on Amazon.
