Um would it be bad to use pulverized clinkerss as balast? asking do to the fact that clinkers are metalic, that combined with the electrical current seems slightly dangerous.
I wouldn’t use them for two reasons.
- There have metal fragments and could easily get in metal gears, thus eating your gears up.
- I would imagine that they would also be a pain in the buttocks, to pound into fine cinders.
Use woodland scenics ballast , thats your best bet.

I don’t use anything metallic in or as ballast for the above stated reason. Plus you have to consider the magnetic factor and the fact that it could short the rails. All good reasons for not using it.
