Close Couple the Roundhouse 4-4-0

I have a “what I did” about moving the tender closer to the engine and disguising the connection wires at:

I saw this a couple weeks ago at my LHS and it said it was sound equipped but didn’t say it was DCC equipped which most manufacturers state on their box. Neither I nor the the LHS employee could figure it out. I figured it was possible to have sound without DCC since some manufacturers provide dual mode sound equipped locos. Is this engine DCC equipped or would I have to add a decoder to it? Also, can anyone tell me what the sound quality is with this loco. I’d be interested in buying this if it is DCC equipped.

It is DCC equipped but it will also run on DC with sound. The DC sound is controlled with a radio controller.

I like the locomotive. It takes a little fiddling with the sound to find the right chuff and whistle, some of the whistles are truly dreadful. The sound is good for an HO locomotive, not a Tsunami but headed in the right direction. Then sound is objective. I also have Soundtraxx Tsunami sound in On30 with two 1-1/2 diameter speakers in the locomotives so that is my benchmark.

I cannot get enough of the locomotive, I have two now.

Just a thought
