Club Sponsored Train Shows For 2025

Full disclosure, I’ve borrowed this topic idea from the “Model Railroader” Forum and honestly I’m sorry I didn’t think of it myself.

Anyway, the idea is to highlight and give a little PR to train club sponsored shows around the country. As we all know clubs use shows as fund-raisers to support their activities, give their members a venue to buy and sell, and also to get the hobby out in front of the public.

So in that vein let me start off with an upcoming activity of our (The Virginia Train Collectors Association) club! It’s not a show but a FREE admission open house, and here’s the flyer, click on the image to enlarge it.

All within the greater Richmond VA area are invited and welcome! We’d love to see you!

And if any of you know of an upcoming show in your area announce it here and keep the thread rolling!

And one last thing, support your local train shows! Trust me, a LOT of work goes into putting one on. And NEVER say “That show never has anything!” because guess what’s likely to show up the time you DON’T go?

Here’s THE website for train shows (and others) in northeast Ohio:

Wow! Looks like Ohio is “Train Show Central!”

Strangely all the shows I attended at the UAW hall right down the street are now at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. Somehow I doubt they will be as big as the all gauge NMRA carnival but the possibility of serious expansion is intriguing. There are 4 large buildings at the fairgrounds and the NMRA show is usually held right after York so we tend to think of it as “York 2” since a lot of the vendors buy at York and sell at Cleveland.

I suspect the show organizers are getting a better deal from the Fairgrounds then they were from the UAW hall.
We used to have a summer show up in Charlottesville at a firehouse (I won’t say who) with an attached VERY large meeting hall. It was a great easy to get to location with all the conveniences you’d want but then they jacked up the rental rate to more than we could realistically afford. So, no more Charlottesville shows, everything else up there is too expensive as well.

Here’s another show resource everyone should know about, the Train Show List. They’re the successor to the now defunct RailServe website. They cover the smaller shows like the ones we’re discussing throughout the whole country and Canada and here’s the link:
