CN 2-8-2

I just ran across this picture of a CN 2-8-2 on the fallen flags site

Note that this engine has the same belpaire firebox as used by GN and the PR. I have never seen this firebox on any other Canadian Railroads. I assume this must have been a one of, that is a engine being used on trial ?

Not at all. The CNR had 35 such locos in Class S-2-a, and another 30 in Class S-2-c. I’m not sure, but the 10 Mikes in Class S-2-b may also have had Belpaire fireboxes.

Thanks for that information.

I should have noticed your CN engines with these fireboxes from visiting your site. Are your CN 2-8-2’s based on the Athearn engines you previously mentioned kitbashing? The engines are as usual very detailed.

Are you aware of any other CNR or CPR steam locomotives with these fireboxes?

Most of the CNR locos that you see in pictures of my layout belong to a close friend, including the re-detailed brass loco shown in the photo above. As far as I know, there are no other CNR or CPR locos with Belpaire fireboxes, although I’m certainly no expert on the subject. Perhaps someone else will have some more info on this subject.

This CNR loco, also belonging to my friend, is an Athearn which I modified:

This 0-8-0 is a Proto loco which I modified for myself:
