CN colours

So is CN gonna paint an SD45 in CN colours now that it owns and uses them? I think it would be realy cool because CN didn’t have any when they were built and the CN colours haven’t realy changed much since then.

So I am hoping we might still see it happen, kind of retro.

If they ever lay hands on WC SD45’s Hunter is going down [censored]

It seems unlikely - CN’s press release about the latest locomotive order said it would allow retirements of older units, and the WC SD45s are contenders for the oldest road engines on the system, and they’re different enough from the rest of the fleet that they’ll be retired as soon as it’s practical to do so. Furthermore, CN haven’t been on much of a painting binge lately unless a unit is in for an overhaul - seen a 4700 lately? [:o]

I’d be extremely surprised if an SD45 gets CN paint.

CN already has been retiring the WC SD45s and selling them to LTEX where they will scrap 'em.More will be retired for sure at the end of this year.

Late last year CN was repainting the ex-IC SD40-2s in the 6100 series. Most of them have been repainted already.

Death of a great locomotive.

Well anyways until the WC SD45’s started showing up on CN trains, I’d never realy seen the real SD45 befeore, and I do beleive the WC SD45 are real. That is the few SD45 units I’ve ever seen were just realy ex-SD45 . Also the fact that CN alows the WC SD45 units to roam so far away from Wisconsen even as lead units suggests to me that they are good units.

I don’t think Canada ever bought SD45 units.

CP bought them, then turned em into Dash 2’s. And, i heard someone say , that the SD50F’s were the ones gonna get retired when the new units come.It sounds strange, but thats what i heard.

A dash-2?

Yep, just like all the other company’s now a days. Not too many SD45’s left. MRL has a bunch tho, so thats cool.

CN isn’t exactly at the top of their game when it comes to re-paints.
In fact, I’d say they put little money into so much as cleaning their loco’s.

Some of the power I see running on the CN looks likes it’s been to war and back.

Seen a lot of WC power on the CN lines out here too, and it doesn’t look like they are putting any effort into that power either.

They said engines from the 3000-3600 hp range will be retired.
