“This is far too obvious; CN has never had any intention to negotiate and is simply waiting for government intervention to settle the issues. CN appears to be using the same tactics they resorted to during negotiations with CN conductors in 2007, which resulted in a strike as well” said Daniel J. Shewchuk, President of Teamsters Rail Conference (TCRC), which represents the 1700 striking locomotive engineers at CN…The Federal Government and the public should be asking CN why they wanted to force a strike rather than to negotiate.”…
Presumeably the Union wants more money and no mileage increase?
Last I heard, the union was asking for status quo
A rather biased view, methinks. Anyhoo, Bill Gates and I are cheering, as our CN stock continues to appreciate. Something wrong with the TCRC mindset, calling a strike with a very stagnant economy. Find Jimmy Hoffa and ask him. He always had the (wrong) answers! The railroad seems to be willing to negotiate, only to be met with the Teamster’s stonewall. There is always the Port of Saint John, ILO Halifax. Or New York/New Jersey, Baltimore, Charleston…, et al, for that matter. Seattle loves you!
Hays
So, which RR do you work for?
The railroad is NOT willing to negotiate. The TCRC was more than willing to settle this without a strike. Every time CN would refuse. Hunter then arbitrarily decided to force a collective agreement on the locomotive engineers IN VIOLATION OF CANADIAN LABOUR LAWS!!!. Well that was the last straw, the engineers walked.
Yes Hays, what railroad do you work for?
‘ILO’ = ‘‘in lieu of’’, not ‘International Longshoreman’s Organization’ or something similar, correct ?
Funniest line I ever read about Jimmy Hoffa was some graffiti on the wall by the coin phone in the ‘Birmingham Diner’ along U.S. Rt. 202 south of West Chester, PA in the early 1980s. It was something like -
‘‘Jimmy Hoffa, call your Dispatch - you’re 3 years overdue !’’
I guess you had to be there to appreciate that.
- PDN.
Does anyone know if the conductors on CN are honoring the engineers picket lines or are they still working?
Good for CN. I hope they BREAK the union.
We have gone plenty far with this, but the destination does not look good to me.
