CN eyes eastern Quebec expansion
I feel like it would be beneficial for CN to build an expansion between Quebec City and Sept-Illes (ESPECIALLY if they build this new line; it would be beneficial for themselves, the QNSL, AND the customers) since a lot of the traffic on the QNSL network heads to China and other Asian countries. It would be easier to run the trains across Canada to western ports than to run ships all the way around the world from China to northeastern Canada like they currently do.
Why not upgrade/double track the existing QNSL instead of building an entirely new line? Seems like a waste of pension funds to me.
There are so many mineral showings that would be mines if they had access to tide water. Iron, base matels, gold silver PGE, Rare Earths and Uranium are just some of the mineral potential of the area. This area is equal to western Europe, this would be part of the Plan Nord of Jean Charest.
