I was browsin around on railpictures.net and noticed that all the CN GE widecabs had teardrop windows like EMD’s MACs. Did CN request this to done. If they did was it so they could use the same windows on other locomotives or what. I appoligize if this is a silly questoin but I’m not the most knowledgable railfan out there. Oh and for your observation here’s some proof.

those are ex conrail units
Not true the ex- LMS Dash-8 units have rectangular windows. All CN Dash-9 locomotives except the first order (22 units), have the teardrop windshields. I have heard that while similar the windows are not exactly alike, and thus not interchangeable.
Maybe it’s improved visibility. Any GE experienced engineers out there could probably jump in and confirm/dispel that thought.
I think those windows make the GEs look better.
I would tend to agree that they won’t interchange with EMD teardrop windows, because the “teardrop” area looks a little smaller.
well the caption said Ex conrail so it must be wrong…
The blue CN C40-8Ws are LMS units that had been on a split lease between CN and Conrail, and were painted for CR. When CR got divided up, CN took over the lease full-time and relettered the locomotives, but didn’t bother to paint them.
It’s a pity, they’d have looked good in black and red!
They’ll get there eventually, I’m sure… Note how CN seems to have “assimilated” at least one unit from almost all of their recent acquisitions…
CN’s former LMS C40-8Ws would be best if they were painted in the Grand Trunk Western scheme.
Recently CN and GTW freight cars have been repainted in GTW Blue.
Several second-hand locomotives in GTW Blue, Red & White would be a break from the Black.
The Grand Trunk Western never directly rostered a GE Road Locomotive.
