I need to replicate the current CN red finish on the ends of two undec loco shells.
It has been suggested that Badger SP daylight red (16-36) is a close match . Has anyone used it on CN locos as a substitute for CN red/orange (which I can’t find in the UK yet) and can confrim it is a good match ?
I know of a guy that swears it is close and by the time you ad weathering, the differences are not noticable. I assume this is for the SD70/75s or new Dash 9s? If that doesn’t suit you try Tester’s Acryl Chevy Engine Red and add a drop of orange to it to tone the red down a bit. Visit my website and click on CN 2506 to see the Chevy Engien Red straight from the bottle. It is a hair too red but the weathering toned it down.
The hobby shops I frequent in my neck of the woods carry Scalecoat ‘special run’ paints that were commissioned by the CN Sigs group. They are identical proto matches for CN equipment.
If you need help getting some - PM me. Saves tha hassle of ‘trying’ to match it by trial and error.
I hope you don’t mean me, cause I was using SP Scarlet [:P]
Lately I have returned to Chevrolet Engine Red by Testors, after discovering they included it in the acrylic line. I started using the Polly Scale SP Scarlet because at the time I switched to acrylics, Testors acrylic didn’t include the Chevrolet Engine Red.
The CN Lines SIG stuff is dead-on, but it’s done in the Scalecoat line and I use acrylics almost exclusively. I’ve been waiting for years for the SIG to work with an acylic manufacturer to offer the same colours.
Uhhhh no they are not. CN SIGs #11 Orange is on my GP38-2 and the Chevy Engine Red is on my Dash 9. You have seen them in person Will, do you think they are the same. The SIG says it should be but I, and others, don’t think so. Also, I don’t think the Grey is right either. I had matched what I sprayed on Rob’s Atlas engines to the decals and when th epaint was opaque enough, they were too grey for diesels in service a while. Fresh from the paint shop, probably but not from the 90s on. I use Testor’s Artic White for the stripes now. No Acrylic though
And yes I did mean you. SP Scarlet/Daylight Red….I’ve been wrong before
