What happened to the Ski Train?
Don’t know about the Agawa Canyon train, but the SSM-Hearst train can be taken over by VIA. They have over half a dozen unrefurbished Budd cars sitting in Mimico; fix them up and put them to work. Shame they didn’t take over the Northlander when ONR cancelled it.
Unfortunately, VIA is a on a path to oblivion.
I don’t see this hapenning.
Iowa Pacific?
Whose going to be interested in taking over a passenger service that only carries a few people in the off-season. I’ve ridden it, and there is nothing there. Taking over the SSM to Hearst train is the kiss of death.
I have used that rail service and would again. I like the idea of refurbishing Budd cars and putting them on. I would also like to see a couple of Budd card running between the Soo and Sudbury.
Do you know how much it costs to drive from where I live to the Soo and back? Using the IRS mileage allowance it is over a hundred bucks. This gets expensive fast. You better believe I would ride the train.

Yes, Via should’ve not only taken over the Northlander but also the BC rail passenger services, especially the Whistler Northwind. If not VIA, then some private operator.
Via Rail would be a very poor choice to run these services even if they were willing to do so. They have run their “corridor” services so badly that even a rail fan like myself would rather take Porter Airlines.
