CN Power Shortage?

I have noticed as of late, CN loco’s not usually used in certain areas are being used. On Sunday as well as last night, we had CN 5629, and SD70I come into little old Manitowoc, WI. Just this one engine which usually rates 2-3. I wanna think that CN has done this to free up those other 1-2 units for service elsewhere. That is the first time a loco of that size has came to Manitowoc. The largest locomotive before that was an SD45 and I thougt that loco would pu***he little rail into the ground…guess not. The last time a loco of that size was along the lake in town was the CNW SD60’s in the 80’s, but that was on thier line, not on the former SOO. We have a sharp curve in the downtown area where the train comes into the heart of the city and I was told many years ago that an SD larger than the SDL39’s would never make the turn because the radius is too tight. Now we get an SD70I and it made it! Any help on the CN Power Shortage news would be great.

I Thought they were on strike and prorably becuase they won’t fix them

Perhaps for some reason that was the only loco available at the time.

…it must be more economical to run a single higher powered loco than two or three lesser powered ones.

SD70I has steerable trucks doesn’t it? Haven’t looked at one lately… Not nearly the same thing as an SD45 or SD60 with conventional 6 axle trucks…

It was there because nothing else was running in L524’s home terminal. Everything was out on another train or bad ordered for various reasons.
