Sadly, timber trestles will meet the fate of all fads…they’ll all die, one-by-one.

I believe another trestle burned completely just three or four weeks ago in the same province or in SK.

The recently restored Kinsol Trestle at the mouth of the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island was set afire twice in the past 25 years. How it didn’t burn, all 144 towering feet of it, is beyond me.

It’s a sad day. Mayerthorpe has had a tragic recent history for other reasons.

Wooden trestles aren’t the only endangered species. Some years back a tornado took out the towering steel Kinzua Viaduct in Pennsylvania.

Ironically, the Kinzua Viaduct was being repaired and upgraded at the time. It was the un-reworked part that went down. Now you can walk out (properly decked walkway with railings) and look down at the footings where the rest of the viaduct used to be.
