I attened a meeting at Valparaiso City Hall today in which there was a discussion regarding saving the CN (former GTW) depot. CN has a deadline of October 16th in order for the structure to be moved, or it will be demolished.
Two CN officials were in attendance and their attitude seemed to be to work with the City of Valparaiso and citizens. There were about 30 in attendance. There needs to be a plan regarding saving the depot in place fairly quickly or CN will move to demolish the depot which has been in place since 1904.
CN outlined the costs associated with purchasing the structure:

Asbestos cleanup of $25,000.

Safety training of $100 per worker.

Flagman expense of $1000-$1500 per day.

Outright purchase cost of the depot.
The depot is in good appearance on the outside. It has been 30 years since i have been inside, but it was used by MOW personnel until recently.
